How to overcome INSECURITY?

Most of us go through a phase in life where we feel insecure and hopeless. Some don't even accept the fact that they are insecure, because they assume that they are just lacking confidence. Even though one has self-confidence, they can still suffer from insecurity.

In order to overcome it, we need to look at the reasons which makes a Christian insecure.

1. Fear of Failure/Failing

2. Disappointed with one-self

3. Living up to the standard's of the world

4. Someone else is better than me

5. Happiness lies in impressing people

These are five of the main reasons why a person feels insecure. How to deal with them?

1. Fear of Failure/Failing:

We might have taken a wrong path at some point of time which made us fail at Life and in Christ. For the matter of fact, we are still afraid that we might fail or get rejected if we did something. And then you go out and see these perfect people in your Life, who seem to have never failed in Life. They are so close to God and are glorifying God in many ways. At that very instant, all you feel is like a failure.

"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." Romans 3: 23-24 (NIV)

Firstly, please know that everyone, I mean, every single person FAILED! No one is perfect. And God doesn't expect you to be perfect. Don't be deceived by what you see in other people's Life. All you see is what they portrait to the world. But behind the scenes they go through the tough times and failure just like you do.

2. Disappointed with one-self:

We go along our daily lives, and somehow, we mess up by doing something wrong. Because we are trying to be good in the eyes of Lord and our mistake might not be pleasing to God, we end up being disappointed with ourself. " I have disappointed God and I'm so bad!"

"This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins."

1 John 4:10 (NIV)

Well, hear this. GOD is NOT DISAPPOINTED with YOU! He knew much before you committed sin that you would fall, and hence even before you were born he died for your sins. He never gets disappointed with you. Since, he died for you, he expects you to live a life away from guilt and be free. Oh common now! The creator of the universe himself loves you so much and how can you be disappointed with yourself!?

3. Living up to the standard's of the world:

Do this, and then that, never do that, always do this! This is how people live in this world. Some human being created a pattern and thought it was ideal and everyone started following it without rhyme or reason. Go out of the pattern!? No way! People will look at you as a FOOL! And when things don't turn out as they should, you might fall out of that pattern or might be a little behind the schedule ( I'm talking to the single people), and everyone around you will sympathize you to make you feel horrible.

Well, this is what Bible says!

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans 12:2 (NIV)

No matter what's going on in your Life, people have no right to meddle. Their thoughts should not influence your thoughts. Show them proudly, how uniquely different you are in Christ and the plan he has for you!

4. Someone else is better than me:

Oh look at the worship leaders and the choir! They are so amazing! God is using them in a coolest way possible to bring glory to his name. And I'm here just writing some blogs and serving in a parking lot or at the registration desk! God gave them great talents and has a higher purpose for them. They are indeed better than me!

God is not partail to anyone. We are all the parts of his body! If one of us stops functioning, the whole system fails! They might be the face, but you are the heart serving hard to keep the whole system working!

"while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other." 1 Corinthians 12:24-25 (NIV)

So next time when you think some one else is better than you, remind yourself that you are equally important!

5. Happiness lies in impressing people:

I will style like them, and talk like them, so that they might be impressed with me and be friends with me.

If your happiness depends on someone getting impressed, you are on a very wrong path. Your happiness should not depend on people that are in your life, that are not in your Life or any materialistic thing. Your happiness should totally be dependent on our Christ. He is a stable element and an ultimate source of happiness. People might come and go, but Jesus will never leave you and hence you will always be happy!

"Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart." Psalm 37:4 (NIV)

Please pay attention to what God says about you through the Bible. Don't listen to your mind and the people around you! You are IMPORTANT, you are LOVED, and you have no reason to feel insecure! :)
