Patience... wait what!
The Lord is good to everyone who trusts in him, So it is best for us to wait in patience—to wait for him to save us— And it is best to learn this patience in our youth. (Lamentations 3:25-27)
One thing I realized after being a Christian for a lot of years is that I lacked patience. I hated waiting especially when I was so excited about it! There were also many circumstances when I was impatient with people and often ended up yelling at them.
That cringe feeling inside you that consumes you while you wait, to an extent that you can no longer handle, which leads to anxiety and ruins your entire week is called impatience!
I dealt with it and never thought I would let go of it. But God had other plans! When I got fed up with people and stayed away from everyone, I asked God to be my teacher and that’s when he taught me various things that pushed me through my limits and one of them was patience!
God made me wait and wait, not once not twice but many times. I had no power what so ever to make things happen! And with the feeling of powerlessness, I would just become sad. Then, Holy Spirit within me reminded me of the days and months that I have wasted my time pursuing what is not God’s will. I saw myself one side of the black screen, drawing away from God pushing him aside. And then I saw the other side where God was holding on to me with such great patience! He knew that I would come back to him one day. Though he had so much power, he didn’t use it to magically draw me to him! Instead he waited and waited very patiently! And when the day I needed him came, he opened his arms wide and held me with pure satisfaction.
Whenever I feel that cringe, I remember how God was patient with me, and I do the same. Even today while I’m waiting for a miracle to happen, I know the time is running out, but I’m waiting patiently because I know he provides and I know he would do the same thing.
Be always humble, gentle, and patient. Show your love by being tolerant with one another. (Ephesians 4:2)
God told us to love everyone! With love comes patience. If Jesus never loved me he would have never waited for me with such patience! So next time when you are tempted to become impatient, remember how God himself was patient with you and display the same exact patience, and the peace of God will certainly fill your heart!
Hot tempers cause arguments, but patience brings peace. (Proverbs 15:18)
